Processing a Profound Loss: Remembering My Dear Uncle

Processing a Profound Loss: Remembering My Dear Uncle

This week has been incredibly tough. Even two days later, I'm still trying to process a very hard loss in the family. My dear Uncle passed on to the next life, and I'm struggling to find the right words to express the depth of this pain.

My uncle was so many things to so many people: a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He was loved by all who crossed his path, full of life, and deeply cherished his family, his faith, and his heritage.

A Guiding Hand Through High School

I'm eternally grateful for the time I spent living with him and my Auntie Jo from 2002-2003, when I was finishing high school. Education was incredibly important to him. He truly pushed me, making sure I would earn that high school diploma. I remember those endless nights working on school projects and essays, with him right there beside me, guiding the way. All that dedication paid off when I graduated with High Honors and a 3.9 GPA. Without his unwavering support and that crucial push, I truly wouldn't have completed my senior year. He also sparked my interest in genealogy, teaching me so much about our family's heritage and where we came from.

Cherished Memories and Lasting Love

I'll never forget our phone call in early 2012 when I found out I was expecting my first child. He was so excited, saying, "So big popcorn is gonna have a little popcorn!" We shared a good laugh on the phone that day. Through the years, I made sure to call him on holidays and birthdays, and we kept in touch through email too. One thing I'm truly going to miss in this world is his jokes and his way of making seafood dinners so special.

Dearest Uncle, the best and easiest way for me to get these feelings out is through my poetry. But one thing is absolutely true: we are all going to deeply miss you being here on Earth, keeping us on our toes. Please keep watching over us from above, and give everyone upstairs – or as your great-nephew says, "in the clouds" – a big hug and kiss from us. Until we cross paths once more, know that I love you and miss you bunches.

Memory is Eternal

From what I remember

Your love and bravery

That caring and wit in your eyes

Which now appears from above

Wish we got more time with you

Your jokes and bright smile

Your love for all to see

Now your a star in the sky

Your the Son, Brother, Father, Uncle, Husband

We all adore you

Your the leader of the family

Who gave us so much more

You were a man of his faith

You taught us so many lessons in life

Most important in life is to fight

To be proud of who you are

And to stand up with all our might

Surrounded with love and admiration

You left us to your next journey

We all weep because your gone

But your memory to hold in our hearts

Guide us from above our angel
